The Roper Pecos Medium Stockman has satin 1065 carbon steel clip, sheepsfoot and spey blades in a yellow smooth Delrin handle with stainless bolsters and an inlay shield, closing to 3.5 inches.
Smooth Delrin is the plain finish against the jigged version, polished flat rather than textured. It shows the color evenly and leaves the closed knife slick, which some carriers prefer and others do not. Yellow reads as a working color rather than a traditional one. Against the bone and wood that fill this category it looks like something meant for a barn or a truck, and that is exactly where it will not get lost.
Three blades divide the work: general cutting to the clip, controlled push cuts to the sheepsfoot, and scraping to the spey, whose rounded tip will not puncture. 1065 carbon steel takes a keener edge than stainless and comes back faster on a stone, developing a patina with use.
